James Ward – Managing Director

I joined F.E.S. (EX) in 2017 when a Contracts Manager position became available during a time when I was looking to continue my career progression. After having worked alongside F.E.S. on various projects previously, it was apparent to me that F.E.S. has an excellent reputation, and I wanted to be part of it.

As a new employee, the management team at the time gave me guidance on working with internal documentation and relevant industry standards. I was given training on procedures, both operational and health and safety. I was also trained on our ExTrace asset management and inspection system. Early into my F.E.S. career, they invested in courses such as NEBOSH and CompEx 12.

My early career goals were to continue to gain experience, be committed in the roles I was working in and progress through various levels from supervision to management and senior management. During my interview we had discussed my career progression route, I said that I was looking to come to the company with a view to gaining further experience and advancing within the business, and F.E.S. went on to provide everything that they had promised in order to help me achieve my goals.

Having initially started at F.E.S. as a Contracts Manager, as my career developed I was first promoted to Deputy Operations Manager, then Operations Manager and most recently to Managing Director. As MD, my day-to-day includes providing leadership, direction and technical support in the execution of contracts to ensure safe working conditions, quality, acceptable programming and client satisfaction, as well as ensuring compliance with legislation such as health and safety. I’m also responsible for the quality of our resources and staff welfare, and I oversee the marketing and sales strategy along with maintaining an overview of the company’s operations.
