Combined Cycle Gas Turbine E&I Services

F.E.S. (EX) is proud to have developed and maintained an excellent long-standing working relationship over several years with our client, a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station situated in central UK. We have been carrying out works for this client on an annual basis, for over 9-years to-date, as part of a rolling programme.

The works involve ensuring that the installation of Electrical and Instrumentation equipment located within the defined hazardous areas (where potentially flammable atmospheres may be present) is installed and maintained in accordance with the legislative requirements under DSEAR. This is necessary for our client to continue providing on-demand energy products essential in supporting the UK’s changing grid landscape and transition to a low carbon economy.

Works are often undertaken during both planned and unplanned site outages, therefore, there is only a specific window of opportunity to undertake certain elements. We operate in an extremely efficient manner utilising our ExTrace® Asset Management and Data Gathering Programme to undertake asset registration, inspection and rectification to BS EN 60079 standards, ensuring a fluid and pragmatic approach in harmony with the client’s operational running.

Site presence can vary between 1-6 personnel, with remote support and back-up from a team of engineers and process safety personnel. A combination of hand tools and suitably certified ATEX test equipment was used in conjunction with our ExTrace® Asset Management and Data Gathering Programme installed upon ATEX certified Tablets, thus reducing the need for additional paperwork.

One of our E&I Inspectors involved in the works commented: “I am very familiar with carrying out the inspection of E&I equipment, it is what I do on pretty much a daily basis at various sites across the country. “Each job has its own little quirks and site procedures, but ultimately I need to work to a standard which is to be expected. I know that I am confident in the quality of my work and that it has surpassed the client’s expectations.”

The requirements for the installation, maintenance and inspection of E&I Equipment in Hazardous Areas requires specialist training such as CompEx, however equally as important as qualification is demonstrable competency. Our experienced and qualified personnel have the proven competency and engineering skills to conduct inspection and subsequent rectification upon Electrical, Instrument & Mechanical equipment located within explosive atmospheres in accordance with all current global standards.
